iamtheCODE Pillars
By 2030, #iamtheCODE seeks to enable one million women and girls from underprivileged backgrounds to become digitally literate and work ready. In order to achieve this goal, iamtheCODE has three foundational pillars which will make this mission a reality.
The problem we are facing
The iamtheCODE Pillars
People
Technology
Processes
Our Guiding Principles
Care
Care about what you do, how you do it and who you do it for
Humility
Take what you do seriously, but don’t take yourself too seriously
Responsibility
Take 100% responsibility
Discipline
See the best in yourself, see the best in others
iamtheCODE is a unique model of direct action to improve economic outcomes for women and girls and direct implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. We aim to enable 1 million young women and girls coders by 2030.
Over 168 events (involving Digital Clubs, Bootcamps, Mentoring Activities, Design Thinking and Hackathons) have been conducted in UK, Brazil, Kenya. Youth from marginalised communities obtain hands-on experience across various technologies and applications, gaining digital badges from IDEA.org.uk and coding at least four languages such as Javascript, Python, CoffeeScript, CSS and HTML.
The iamtheCODE success would not have been possible without our partners and backers such as UNICEF, The World Economic Forum, UN, UN-WOMEN, UBS Optimus Foundation, Unilever, Alibaba, EY, KANO, Coursera, IDEA, UNHCR, Microsoft, Salesforce and the British Council.
How you can help
“In 1995, 37% of computer scientists were women. Today, it’s only 24%. If we do nothing, in ten years the number of women and girls in computing will decrease to just 22%.” GWC
